the Dream

Gérard Perse wrote the first chapter of his new life in Bordeaux when he acquired Château Monbousquet in 1993. In just a few years, by dint of audacity, rigour and hard work, he elevated the estate to the rank of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé.

During the ensuing years, his passion for wine only strengthened, and he subsequently purchased other stunning wine estates, notably the fabulous Château Pavie, for which he gained promotion to the rank of Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé “A”.

His daughter Angélique and son-in-law Henrique Da Costa, driven by the same determination and passion, joined him in 2005. Together, they created a unique and immediately approachable Bordeaux red that reflected their shared commitment. Thus, in 2008, Esprit de Pavie was born.

Today Angélique and Henrique are passionately and respectfully committed to making Esprit de Pavie the perfect introduction to the excellence of Château Pavie.

Sourced from Bordeaux’s

finest terroirs

Esprit de Pavie is sourced from young vines in Saint-Emilion Grand Cru belonging to Château Pavie and from plots located within the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation.
The rich nuances and enveloping personality of Esprit de Pavie reflect a mosaic of sandy, clay, and limestone soils that are typical of the region and represent the most remarkable terroirs on Bordeaux's Right Bank.

Stretching from Saint-Emilion’s limestone plateau down over the slopes to the Dordogne Valley and facing due south, the vineyards bask in ideal growing conditions.

Experience makes

the difference

Esprit de Pavie is crafted each vintage by the Château Pavie technical team with the greatest rigour. The men and women in the team draw on their long experience in tending each individual plot. They are the guardians of the wine's precise style.

The quality of the crop is ensured by constant care in the vineyard all year round. Tasks such as green harvesting and targeted leaf-thinning ensure that optimal conditions are provided for the grapes to thrive.

The vinification is carried out plot-by-plot, so as to adapt to the character of the vintage. After a few days of cold maceration, the fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats. Esprit de Pavie is then aged for around fifteen months without the use of new oak to ensure a harmonious wine that is enjoyable as from its earliest years.
